Candles

Picture this...it is February 14, or, as it is known to most people, Valentine’s Day. You have just finished dinner and are heading back to the bungalow you share with your girlfriend. She is none the wiser, but you have a surprise waiting there. She figures the surprise was the romantic dinner the two of you shared, at the reserved table for two in the far corner of that upscale restaurant, hidden away from the rest of the Valentine’s diners. But, you know there is more waiting back at home.

You have enlisted your good buddy (who is Valentine-less this year and more than willing to do a favour for a friend) to help set the stage for what your sweetheart is about to behold. As the two of you stroll down the walkway, leading up to the stairs, she begins to see the beginnings of your surprise. Rose petals trail up the stairs, leading into the doorway of your home. You open the door for her and walk into the home. Candles are scattered throughout your house...more candles than she has ever seen all in one place in her entire life. Candles atop the fireplace mantle spelling out “I love you”, candles on each and every table in the shape of a heart, and then...she notices...candles, creating a pathway down the hall. By this time she is smiling at you. She had no idea! 

You give her a kiss, and then lead her down the candle trail. It leads into the bathroom where she finds more candles lining the tub, and a fresh bath that had been drawn just minutes ago by your buddy (who, of course, left out the back door as he saw the pair of you strolling down the walkway in front of the house). Floating on top of the clear water she finds more rose petals, more candles, and then...

Okay, you can take over from here. Use your imagination and allow the story to end however creatively you would like it to. But, let me ask you a question?  Would any of this scene be half as romantic had it not been for the candles?  Candles serve many purposes. They obviously provide light (duh!). That is great in a power outage, but, on Valentine’s Day, they can set the mood, as you can see by this story. And if you buy the long burning type, you can replay this night over and over, coming up with a new ending each time.
